PAAJAF welcomes your interest in raising the quality of life for neglected children, youth, and women in Ghana.  Some of the benefits that come from volunteering include contributing to sustain human development and working in a diverse environment.  You can be a Virtual Volunteer or a project site volunteer.

A volunteer is an individual who commits his or her time, offering his or her skills and effort without financial benefit to himself or herself.

While our needs vary from time to time depending on projects, we can use your expertise in researching

donor prospects, providing program-specific research, fundraising and input, as well as writing, editing, and designing variety of program-related materials.

How can you help as a project site volunteer?

Although help could be provided in any form, the PAAJAF Foundation, mainly due to resource constraints, has the following opportunities available for volunteers:

Teaching Opportunities

  • Teaching at government and private schools:
    • •  As a Pre-School Teacher you can teach children below age five reading and understanding alphabets and numbers; play music and act in drama etc.
    • •  As a Primary School Teacher you can teach children between the ages 5 and 12 Creative Art, Computing, English, French, Mathematics, and Science.
    • •  As a Junior High School Teacher you can teach Junior High School students between the ages 11 and 16 Computing, Mathematics, English and French.
  • Teaching under PAAJAF’s Adult Education Programme:
    • The PAAJAF Foundation’s Adult Education Programme provides adult education free of charge to men and women with no formal education, at a local junior level.
  • Secondary school in Gbawe:
    • You can choose to teach English, Basic Mathematics and Health Issues under this Programme.

Coordinating Children’s Network

You can help us develop ideas and create clubs in various schools and communities across Ghana. You can also help these institutions establish linkages with youth and children groups and institutions outside Ghana.

Coaching at Community Football Club

Volunteer football players with coaching experience can opt to coach community football clubs in the country.

Assisting in Administration

• Volunteers can conceptualize and draft development proposals.
•  Draft and submit fundraising letters.
•  Design and implement fundraising activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I volunteer?

If you’re on a gap year, summer placement, or career break and want to extend a helping hand, we welcome you to share your wisdom and earn the gratitude of deprived Ghanaian communities.

2. Do I have to bear costs incurring during my volunteer work?

 

Yes, PAAJAF does not have a donor yet to sponsor volunteers or exchange students to work on our projects. Volunteers and Exchange Students are therefore requested to participate in the costs. Costs include: Accommodation and Meal.

• Accommodation (for 2 Weeks – $500, 4 Weeks – $1,000 and meals (from $5 for launch or a super). Please, if you wan to stay longer than 4 weeks contact  us in advance.

 3. Do I need a visa to legally enter into Ghana?

You should contact the Ghanaian Embassy or High Commission in your country to get information on visa requirements.

Additionally, on arrival in Ghana you will receive a customs stamp indicating the extradition date of your current Ghanaian visa (normally one to two months). Visa renewals are handled at the local Ghana Immigration office, and require two passport size pictures per application. PAAJAF Foundation will assist volunteers in extending their stay if required.

 4. Where will I stay? What is it like to live with a host family?

To gain insight into the way of life and culture in Ghana, volunteers are normally placed with host families. Volunteer eats breakfast and an evening meal with the host family and sleeps in one of the rooms in their home. Since PAAJAF Foundation does not have sponsors at this point, all volunteers are placed in a hotel or guest house in Gbawe Community.

5. How can I get the most out of my volunteering experience?

The volunteer experience will give back as much as you put in. Here are some helpful suggestions to maximize the benefits of your stay:

• Come with eagerness, an open mind, and a flexible attitude

• Bring additional materials or donated funds so you can kick start innovative and engaging projects

• Be patient and willing to listen and learn. Enthusiasm goes a long way!

PAAJAF Foundation is here to support you. The Foundation will secure your placement, arrange your lodging, provide necessary advice, and do everything possible to help make sure your experience is a rewarding one.
